Thai Horn-Lip Orchid is a small sized, tree-dwelling
orchid with stubby rhizomes giving rise to stems carrying a single,
apical, linear leaf. The plant blooms in the fall with a short single
flowered inflorescence. Flowers are small, 5 mm across, white with
purplish red spots, lip whitish yellow. Flower-stalk and ovary 2-3 mm
long, velvet-hairy. Dorsal sepal oblong-lanceshaped, below
velvet-hairy, hairless above, pointed, 3 x 2 mm; lateral sepals broadly
ovate, pointed, 2-3 mm, below velvet-hairy, hairless above. Petals
narrowly oblong, hairless, 2-3 x 1 mm. Lip is oblong, boat-shaped, 2-3
mm, thickened, base deeply saccate, margin entire, tip with a cushion
like callus. Column very short, column foot short and warty. Thai
Horn-Lip Orchid is found in Arunachal Pradesh to China (S. Yunnan) and
Indo-China. Flowering: March-June.
